Maximum flexibility for IoT and Industry 4.0: FP presents a gateway for everything

From 27 to 29 November 2018, Francotyp-Postalia (FP) will be present at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg with its IoT division "Tixi" and present a new generation of the successful FP Tixi Gateway.

Berlin, 22 November 2018 - An internal slot to add the required I/O modules – the new FP Tixi Gateway from Francotyp-Postalia (FP), the expert for secure mail business and secure digital communication processes, can be used flexibly. This makes it even easier for companies to control and optimise energy consumption or to process the various pieces of PLC data from mechanical and plant engineering in a uniform manner.

In order to present the Gateway to an international trade audience, FP will be a guest this year at the 29th SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg with its recently acquired IoT specialist division "Tixi". At the leading trade fair for smart and digital automation, around 1,700 exhibitors will present their latest products and solutions on topics such as control technology, sensor technology and interface technology and provide an insight into current trends in the industry.

Eaton Industries, manufacturer of energy management systems, will be presenting the new generation of its easyE4 control relays at the FP stand opposite. The FP Tixi Gateway is the first solution to support Eaton's new product generation and thus also enables cloud-based control of a wide variety of building technology and automation systems.

"With the takeover of the IoT specialist Tixi.Com, we were able to further expand our IoT specialist area. The aim was not least to implement new business models quickly and flexibly and to open up new markets. We have already successfully achieved this recently through our cooperation with CJC, a manufacturer of oil filter systems, and through our cooperation with Eaton," says Sven Meise, Chief Digital Officer of Francotyp-Postalia Holding AG. "With the new FP Tixi Gateway, we are offering our customers maximum flexibility for the use of hardware components and thus even better options for controlling systems in the company in an energy-efficient manner. This enables our customers to save costs and maintain their competitiveness in the long term."

Reducing energy consumption with FP Tixi Gateway

The new generation of FP Tixi Gateways, in combination with energy management systems (EnMS), helps companies to monitor the energy consumption of industrial plants via apps and thus to identify potential savings more easily. The Gateways serve as intelligent data loggers. They read the data from the programmable logic controllers (PLCs) of machines and plants as well as from energy meters, for example for electricity, gas, heat or water, at a certain interval via an interface and transmit the data directly to the energy management software.

Flexible equipment of the Gateway as required

Previously, FP had different variants of the FP Tixi Gateway available for its customers – they were equipped, for example, with two analogue inputs each or two digital inputs each. The new generation of the FP Tixi Gateway is a basic model with an internal slot for I/O modules. Depending on the customer's requirements, FP can connect the appropriate modules for analogue or digital inputs and outputs to this slot.

The gateway can therefore be used flexibly. Customers can better plan the construction of a control system. The new generation of FP Tixi Gateways does not require any external I/O modules, which can lead to a higher space requirement of the Gateway in the control box. The customer simply orders the appropriate version including the respective I/O modules added by Tixi. The size of the Gateway remains the same in all cases, and thus the new Gateway is more compact and requires less space.

In addition, with the new FP Tixi Gateway generation, users now have two options to connect the device to the power supply. Either with a voltage of 24 volts, for example via a switch cabinet, or with a voltage of 230 volts. Sub-distributors such as electricity meters can be used for this purpose.
